Week 27 – #38 Powerful

38 - Powerful-1

38 - Powerful-2

When one sees the Clydesdale horse, you can see the power in the shoulders of these fine horses.   These horses are not intimidated by the flag.  This young lady rode proud on that powerful horse and it responded beautifully with the flag flapping back and forth above its head.   The bred is originally from Scotland and it was exported throughout the world back in the 19th and early 20th centuries.  It was originally a smaller build but was bred to increase its size.  The males can now stand between 18 to 20 hands high and weigh as much as 2000 lbs.

Week 13 – # 19 Horses and Humans

19 Horses and Humans - 2

The theme of horses and humans – normally includes horses, but there was no rule that said the horse had to be alive or real.
I give you two photos – one starting out with Horse on a Stick    or Stick Horse and rider.    On closer look its a unicorn  with Kristy Alderman Bain trying not to get bucked off.  One brave lady.
19 Horses and Humans
And the Winner of the best costume was Anna Williams and Erik (who wasn’t told he was a zebra for the day).  Eric was checking out the trophy and I didn’t want to miss his close-up so unfortunately you are not seeing his stripes.  (of course, he prefers it that way….. hard to explain back at the barn).

Thanks to Anna, Kristy, Eric and the unicorn – the participants in the Manatee Horse Show Association for setting these shots up for me.

Week 36 – #12 – Hair It Is

12 Hair It Is-2
In Myakka City, FL there are some of the most beautiful horses.  The Herrmanns’ Royal Lipizzan Stallions have their home here.  During the off season, they rest and train here in the warmth of Florida.   Starting in May they will begin their touring of the United States and Canada doing shows. I joined with the Lakewood Ranch Digital Photography Club on their excursion to visit.

Founded in the 16th century for the exclusive use of the Hapsburg Royal family of Austria, the Royal Lipizzans are the rarest, most aristocratic breed of horses in the world. The pride of the Hapsburg Empire, the Lipizzan breed was first established by Archduke Charles at Lipizza (now part of Yugoslavia).  The bred was rescued by Colonel Herrmann and his father, Colonel Ottomar Herrmann, Sr., smuggled the horses out from far behind enemy lines with the help of George Patton in World War II saving the breed.

I remember hearing about these horses when I grew up, though I do not remember seeing them except on TV.

Check them out – http://www.hlipizzans.com/index.htm

Now looking at the beautiful horse above you see the mane  which I am using for the Hair theme – and here is why……

12 Hair It Is

I rest my case – for Hair it is!   Schönsten!

Week 18 – #3 An Expression of Love

3 An Expression of Love 3 An Expression of Love-2 3 An Expression of Love-3The Manatee Horse Show has a number of talented young horse people.  Yes, I called them young, and they are not all kids.  They show expressions of love towards their horses and I could fill a year with all of those photos.  The shows are held the first Sunday of the month at the Manatee Equestrian Center on Lena Rd.  Here are just three from this year’s shows.  It is so refreshing to see these young people taking the time to get know their horses and how to work with them with care and love.  The lessons learned in dedication to this sport, the empathy towards their animals and each other, carries over into the rest of their lives.
